Every 15 Seconds: A Video About Family Violence

Developed with the assistance of soldiers and their families, Every 15 Seconds provides insight into the unique circumstances of military life and its effects upon the causes, choices, and consequences of family violence.

Every 15 Seconds utilizes 3 dramatic vignettes to deliver its message:

1.  A soldier is arrested for a domestic violence incident.  Neighbors have reported hearing gunshots.  The children of the couple are frightened.  The house is a war zone.

2.   Three officers meet at the club for a drink.  One of them makes suggestive and controlling remarks to the waitress.  He believes that this shows he is a real man.  The three officers then discuss his behavior and their own experiences with violence as children and its impact upon them as adults.

3.  A Soldier is reprimanded by his commander for sloppy work.  His anger builds when his parking place is blocked on his way home.  And when he gets home, his daughter and wife are arguing.  Violence ensues.  However, the violence is stopped and an agreement is made for the entire family to get help.

Every 15 Seconds will help people understand:

  • About the causes of family violence
  • The choices available for abusers to help them change their behavior
  • How choices can change the consequences of the behavior
  • Underlying myths about healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • The issues of power and control
